Deshaies is a city in the archipelago of Guadeloupe in northwestern Basse-Terre. Its territory covers 31.11 km2 and has a very wide coastline which gives it a marked maritime character. The Rivière du Vieux-Fort is the main river in the municipality that separates its territory from that of Sainte-Rose. Its small village, with its typically creole huts, is huddled at the bottom of a bay protected by the mountain. The climate is tropical.
